As a wedding photographer I was pleased that in the recent Budget the Chancellor announced a review of wedding venues in England and Wales.
I love seeing wedding images from America and Australia where they can have outdoor ceremonies - as you know my passion is natural light and it can be so beautiful so nothing better than using it for wedding photography.
“England and Wales have outdated laws about how and where couples can marry. The Government has asked the Law Commission to propose options for a simpler and fairer system to give modern couples meaningful choice. This will include looking at reducing unnecessary red tape and lowering the cost of wedding venues for couples.”
Couples could soon be allowed to get married outdoors as part of changes to the 180-year-old laws in an attempt to make the ceremonies more affordable.
Under the current laws, which have remained largely unchanged since 1836, civil ceremonies in England and Wales are prohibited on beaches, in gardens or beneath marquees. They must take place in solid structures with a permanent roof if they are to be solemnised legally.
There is an increasing demand for such services, which are permitted in Scotland, where couples have long enjoyed greater freedom over where they can proclaim their vows.
My closest to an actual outdoor wedding was for Nick and Lucy when they had a small 'official' registry office appointment but then a full on celebration with a ceremony and all their friends and family outside. I can imagine lots of outside ideas and one shoot I did with Carla Brooks - Lynnette Chasmer we got to try some outside Boho Bride ideas!
SO.........what would your ideal outside wedding be??????
