Trying to keep the children busy these recent days is a priority for all of us - we are helped by their cub and scout online meetings. For Callys skills badge last week she was set the challenge of cooking a meal for 4 - two courses. Excited at the thought she hit the online recipes to find something she wanted to cook. No mean feat for our family as some dislikes mean its rare we all eat the same dish. Her chosen dish was a Prawn Thai noodles - which we varied for the non prawn eaters by substituting chicken.
First step was to create an ingredients list and then to check the cupboards to see what we had in. A few questions on how to measure out some of them and what some things are. She then made a shopping list. Given current circumstances I went to do the shopping although I am sure she would have enjoyed that part.
In the afternoon she made the chocolate fudge cake - she has made this before so no problems there. No malteasers at the shop so substituted with M&M's.
Her Dad and I were around in the kitchen whist she was cooking the main course and showed her some steps like chopping etc but she completed the prep herself. For this dish the prep takes a lot of time but then a quick cook. She separated the dish into two pans so she could add the prawns to one and chicken to the other.
The finished dish was a great success and enjoyed by all bar the youngest child - who is resistant to new things!
We are looking forward to our next meal soon!
