Over the years something that has always been important to me is to friendships. I enjoy that fact that they can occur sometimes when least expected and that they are not necessarily with people your own age.
Meeting new people can be hard and I never was one of the popular ones at school – more like the third tagger on – trying to please and be liked. To be honest I am sure I was annoying! but I just wanted to fit in and belong somewhere and did not realise that is a guaranteed way to put people off. As I grew older, I was the helpful one - babysat and helped out at Brownies and then Guides, did my Duke of Edinburgh award to Gold (yes, I did get to see Prince Phillip! at St James Palace – that’s another story!).
It taught me that if I was friendly and responsible and cared about people, I could make different friendships. These varied from people my own age, the children I looked after to older friends in the leaders of the Brownie and Guide pack. So, for me friendships are not just the friends you made at school, they are people you spend time with over the years and whose company you enjoy.
Who are yours?
I asked that question of some people recently and these are some of their answers. See if any would be your answers and if you have others, please do let me know!
My book club, my pet! my mum <3/dad/sister/brother/cousin…….., best mates from school, the guys at the pub, my footie team (he plays), mums group (since babies born & grown), Friends in England, Myself as in my imaginary friend who I talk to <3 ( loved this one and her explanation that ..I sometimes feel that one has to make friends with themselves first to be able to honour friendships in their life) I've got friends I've made when I met my fiancé through his friendship group, my pets (best friends ever!), friends my sister and I have together, old school friends, work colleagues, people I have met through work and people I used to work with, one of my best friends is my old boss from a job I had when I was in my late teens, my mum, my daughters, and my ex - the father of my daughters (which is a very rare friendship! (I did ask if I could use that last one as very personal, but she agreed and I think it’s an amazing thing to be able to have) the guys at work, housemates, the list is endless……………………
So why this topic for a blog – I guess all the ups and downs have made me realise how much I have always valued my friendships. In time and circumstance and with busy day to day lives people can drift apart and sometimes a little effort can remind you of friendships that were important and can be again. I am looking forward to seeing some old friends and enjoying their company again – remembering all the things we used to get up to and having some more adventures - hopefully not much longer now!
If you would like to have a fun outside, natural light photoshoot, , somewhere you enjoy being and with your ‘friends’ – whoever they are - then then please do contact me and we can arrange it and then you will have some images to look at when you can’t see them for any reason and remember all the laughter you shared and will again!
